Eric Short donated to The Legion National Foundation Digital Poppy

I would like to give special tribute to my Uncle, Sergeant Edward Thomas Short, who peacefully passed away on August 18, 2021. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. A very dedicated man to both his family and to his 35 year Military career. Ed enrolled on October 24th, 1961 at the age of 19 starting out as a Gunner in the Artillery at Gagetown Fredericton. He held various roles throughout his career in all three segments of the forces Army, Navy and Air Force.

In November of 1963, he was posted at Shilo, MB where he meet his wife Betty Kilborne and was married on August 8, 1964 and was shortly posted to Langcheid, Germany where their first son Bill was born. In August 1967, he was then posted at Winnipeg, MB where their second child was born Sherrie-Ann (1968), unfortunately he missed the birth as he was on a 6 month tour of duty in Cyprus. March 1969, he was posted to Halifax, NS. where they had their third child Tina (1971).

In 1972, he was posted back to Shilo, MB and did a second 6 month tour of duty in East Cairo 1974. In 1975, Ed was posted with his family to Lahr, Germany and returned back in 1978 to Winnipeg, MB completing his years of service in 1986 with an additional 10 years as a civil servant at the base in Winnipeg, MB. until 1996. Aside from Ed’s strict Military side, he was a big kid at heart with a great sense of humor who loved to joke around and have fun, bringing cheer and laughter to all.
